Counseling
Figure 01: (Barman, 2021)
We, as humans, confront a variety of issues in our daily lives, whether personal or professional. The intensity or gravity of the issues may differ, and this will influence how much and to what extent they affect our work or us personally. When we are confronted with such issues, we all require assistance in analyzing, solving problems, and making judgments. We are often not very adept at dealing with difficulties in a systematic and effective manner, especially when they touch us personally.
Introduction to Counseling
Counseling is a process in which clients learn to make decisions and develop new behaviors, feelings, and thoughts. Counselors concentrate on the objectives that their clients seek to achieve. Clients examine their current levels of functioning as well as the changes that must be in order to meet their goals (Kabir, 2017).
Counseling is a partnership in which one person tries to understand and address the difficulties of another. It’s possible that the individual’s issue is either work-related or personal.
The need for workplace counseling
There are a variety of reasons why employers use counseling as one of their employee-care strategies.
One of the most important obligations of employers is to ensure the well-being of their employees. Counseling is one method for assisting employees in coping with organizational changes. It enhances the mental health of those who are troubled. Employees do not leave their troubles at home when they arrive to work. Counseling services can also be considered as a preventive service, in which the presence of counselors who provide training and instruction helps to prevent mental diseases. Finally, counseling is a source of organizational transformation in and of itself.
Types of Counseling
There are three types of counseling. They are directive, non-directive, and cooperative counseling.
In directive counseling, the counselor listens to the employee’s emotional problem, determines what the employee should do, and then instructs and motivates him to do it. Counseling that is non-directive is the polar opposite of counseling that is directive. This is a client-centered therapy strategy. Compared to the other two, co-operative counseling is more practical and adaptable to managerial attitudes and temperament.
Conclusion
Counseling typically allows people to express themselves in situations where no one seems to agree with them; this is the foundation and direction in which most people’s dysfunctional problems are solved nowadays.
